Whatchu gonna do when SHTF?
I believe no other time in the history of the United States, except perhaps during the Civil War, has the United States been closer to collapse. I don’t believe this is a high likelihood but I would rate it at low to mid single digit percent risk factor. That may seem low to many, but considering the consequences if that happened, that should terrify everyone.
Collapse is a real risk but hopefully something we can avoid. Unfortunately, what is far more likely I think, is in the next few years The United States will descend into a nightmare Orwellian police state. This scenario I would rate probably near 50/50.
Of these two outcomes, collapse would be the far greater disaster. Not just to the people of the United States but also the world, because the world economy is tied to the U.S. economy. If we fall, the world economy will take a serious hit.
Collapse while hopefully low probability, would come with devastating national and global consequences. As a result this scenario is due significant consideration. Many countries and nations in the world have collapsed many times, almost to the point of being a generational event. While devastating locally to the people, the situation is at least moderately familiar to those living there, and tends to be regionally contained.
A collapse of the United States would probably be beyond description and imagination. Americans have had 250 years of domestic stability. Most would probably be incapable of adjusting to any other environment. Collapse would also likely happen quickly with little time to prepare before and essentially no opportunity to prepare after. This makes prior planning particularly important for this situation.
Unfortunately, the far more likely outcome for the United States in the next few years is the complete destruction of the Constitution, a free democratic society, and the establishment of a black bagging, people disappearing police state. This outcome would also be devastating but for those paying attention to the direction of the winds, could possibly make plans. It’s unlikely the individual could do much of anything to affect this large scale problem, but one could make arrangements for escaping the situation.
This is definitely a doom and gloom post and I wish things were better. The United States has had a good run and I hope this turns out to be simply a speed bump in the road and we have a long time to go still. But in the here and now, We The People are facing two very possible society ending futures.
Both of these outcomes would be devastating. Watching the winds so to speak has probably never been more important to personal individual survival in the United States. So stay vigilant, stay observant, plan ahead, and let's hope I have never been more wrong about anything in my entire life.
