I Want Socialism or Communism!
Say many 18-34 year-olds; they just want someone else to pay for it.

This is becoming an increasing and disturbing trend. My summary of the boiled-down version?
‘I hate you for having stuff and accomplishing things. I want stuff and things too but I don’t want to work for decades to achieve it. So give me all your stuff!’
How can someone even entertain this concept? How is this possible?
I recently read an article from the Frasier Institute and this was the gist; Australians 18-34 want socialism, they just want someone else to pay for it. Yes, Frasier leans a bit right and uses emotionally charged phrasing, but that doesn’t mean they’re wrong…in this case. My point isn’t about Australians either, it’s this growing trend which is becoming pervasive throughout the Western world.
I just can’t wrap my mind around the colossal short-sighted ignorance of this position. I think it really does boil down to one group doesn’t want to work to achieve results and instead would rather reallocate assets (to them) from those who have worked hard for decades.
I guess I can grasp, somewhat, the appeal of someone else footing the bill for everything. I suppose it may be a very stress free life. However, there is a very significant catch to that which is why I find this so vexing. Once the money is used up (or driven off more likely) someone will have to work to produce again. I guess that is just too alien a concept to many 18-34 year-olds today, among many others. Anything more than a few weeks down the road simply doesn’t exist, soooo no problem, I guess.
Once again, I think this may be rooted in participation trophies. That practice taught kids everyone is equal, everyone deserves the same recognition, everyone is contributing equally. Sorry peeps, but that just ain’t true.
There is a saying, I’m not sure where it came from but here it is:
Hard times make strong people, strong people make easy times. Easy times make weak people, weak people make hard times.
I think the West has been safe and prosperous for so long that we are now growing to many people with absolutely zero concept of challenge and difficulty. People with little to no understanding of the harsh realities of the big dangerous world out there. These people feel compelled to self-righteously reallocate the accomplishments of the strong (or the productive) to the weak (non-productive), so to speak.
I guess we’re just at that point on the merry-go-round again. So buckle up butter-cups, times are probably going to be a changing! Maybe I can get someone to pay for my stuff?
If you value hard work, responsibility, and the freedom to enjoy the rewards of effort, then this is the conversation that matters. Share this piece, leave your thoughts below, and challenge the next generation to see beyond the short term. Easy times never last. Strong people do.
